Enjoy Brest gastronomy!

If the city of Brest is known for its rich maritime past and its naval base, visiting it is also an opportunity to discover its culinary specialties. Don't leave without having tasted the essentials of Brest gastronomy!

Sweet specialties

Kouign Amann: the essential delicacy

It is undoubtedly the best known of Breton pastries: the famous Kouign Amann, created in 1865 in Douarnenez.
A very gourmet delight made with puff pastry, butter (semi-salted of course!) and caramelized sugar.
Don't panic: to work off the calories swallowed, you can do a few lengths in the swimming pool of the Best Western Plus Europe Brest hotel or go for a walk in our fitness area.

Breton palet and Breton far: timeless classics

It has long since crossed the borders of Finistère: Breton palet!
A delicious shortbread biscuit with a soft texture and a slightly salty taste, thanks to the semi-salted butter, will also delight your taste buds.
Like the traditional far breton, a dense... and tasty plum flan.

Savoury delights

Buckwheat galette: a Breton tradition

This is one of Brittany's signature dishes: the buckwheat galette, more rustic than the wheat crepe, is adorned with many fillings - ham, cheese, eggs...
Enjoy it accompanied by cider (AOP Cornouaille is better), made with apples or pears.

Biquette Breizh, a cheese with character

A soft goat's milk cheese with a natural rind, Biquette Breizh is produced by the Chèvrerie de Plouyé, in Finistère.
You can enjoy it on a slice of fresh bread, in a salad, or melted in hot dishes.

Kig ha farz: one of the flagship dishes of Finistère

It is probably not the best known, but it deserves to be tasted! This cousin of the pot-au-feu is also made up of vegetables and meat.
But it is served with farz (white or black), a pancake batter cooked with broth, and accompanied by lipig, a tasty butter and shallot sauce.
